GearUp
This year marked the most successful GearUp program to date, thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors. Their support allowed the Harvey Foundation to provide student-athletes with the equipment they need to participate with confidence and pride.
A generous gift made it possible to outfit the freshman boys, junior varsity boys and girls, and varsity boys and girls basketball teams with brand-new sneakers. Beyond the basketball court, GearUp also provided more than 100 pairs of new sneakers to students in kindergarten through eighth grade, ensuring younger students had quality footwear for school and everyday activities.
The program’s impact extended even further by supplying the varsity swim team with new swim goggles and providing goalie skates for our hockey teams—equipment that can make a meaningful difference for student-athletes and their families.
While we are not able to provide support on this scale every year, this remarkable year serves as a powerful reminder of what is possible when our community comes together. We are deeply grateful to the generous donors who made this extraordinary level of support possible, helping remove barriers so more Nantucket students can learn, compete, and thrive.

Our GearUp Program was started to help assist families get their children ready for their upcoming athletic season. We began this program in the spring of 2017 and have had three rounds of GearUp to date. In the weeks leading up to a new sports’ season, The Harvey Foundation hosts a GearUp event, which gives away FREE athletic gear to Nantucket youth ages 7-19. GearUp aims to help families in need, offset the cost of athletic equipment for their child’s sport season. This past winter, GearUp provided 140 pairs of basketball sneakers & 25 pairs of swim goggles to our winter athletes.
