The 2nd annual Run for Robin 2016 was an amazing success! This event is geared for all ages to participate in a run or walk to honor the life of a beautiful Nantucket community member. The Run for Robin was held on November 13, 2016. We look forward to growing this event and providing an opportunity for the community to come together in a healthy and positive way.
As many Nantucket Residents know, we lost a special community member the winter of 2015 in a tragic accident, Robin Harvey was training for her 2nd Boston Marathon when she was hit and killed by a car. In her graceful honor we are pleased to host our 2nd annual Run for Robin 5K! Last year we had over 1,000 participants come out for our first run.
Not only is this race set up to pay tribute to Robin and her beautiful life, but also to raise money for the foundation, including the scholarship award. The Harvey Foundation has been working hard this year growing the organization and outreach here on Nantucket. In the past two years we have awarded $25,000 in scholarship money, to deserving student athletes going on to further their education. Additionally, we put on a March Madness 3v3 basketball tournament for the community raising $7,000 for the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club as well as donating book bundles to 30 special youngsters enrolled in the Summer Boost Program to help build their home libraries. This fall we are launching a community wide pen pal program, pairing 100 students of different ages with members of the community to build community connections.
Run for Robin 2015
Our inaugural Run for Robin took place on a beautiful sunny day on Sunday, November 8th 2015. Over 1,000 community members from Nantucket came out to participate and volunteer in the first Run for Robin 5K in honor of the late Robin Harvey. This run/walk was started as the first fundraising event put on by the Harvey Foundation Inc. The event raises funds to support the Robin Harvey Scholarship Award given out each spring to deserving student athletes.
